Medieval Music
PRESENTATION
"I would like to provide the public, when they walk inside a Cathedral or a Cistercian cloister, with the understanding of the vision of the world which was responsible for the building of such edifications "
Georges Duby
Is there anyone who is not affected by the grandiose view of a gothic cathedral? Its arches, its majestic columns? The luminosity and the dream that filled its stained-glass windows and the desire to reach the skies have been a source of emotion to Man through the centuries. And how about medieval music? It could not be any different, since it was equally the expression of this high culture, manifest in all its refinement with delicate and agile ornaments, richly woven polyphony and a profound religious feeling, associated to an abandonment of identity by the artist himself. Music existed not only within the church boundaries, but also outside them: in the feudal courts, in the pubs, in the pilgrimage routes and also in the marginal and transitory world of the golliards (wandering students and members of the clergy who challenged the establishment.)
